Former LSU head basketball coach Dale Brown is known to at least play some role in making Shaquille O’Neal a Hall of Fame player. Brown shared stories about O’Neal and others from over 30 years in coaching as the featured speaker at the Montana Coaches Association clinic on Wednesday.
He spoke for nearly two hours and touched on his “7 Basic Essentials of Coaching” and his “Freak Defense”. The 48th edition of the clinic runs through Friday at Great Falls High School.
Brown was the head coach of the Tigers for 25 years and compiled a 448-301 record. He made 13 trips to the NCAA Tournament and advanced at least to the Elite Eight four times.
Some of his more remarkable accomplishments include leading LSU to 10 straight March Madness Trips. Brown also defeated Kentucky more than any coach in college basketball history.
His tremendous career was honored with induction into the College Basketball Hall of Fame in 2014 and he is also a member of the Louisiana Sports and Basketball Coaches Halls of Fame. Brown now gives speeches around the country and serves as an ambassador for LSU Athletics.
