Mack Brown Returns to Coaching at North Carolina

One of the greatest coaches in modern college football history is returning to sidelines at a familiar place. Mack Brown has officially agreed to come back to one of his most successful stops as a head coach at the University of North Carolina.

Brown is being introduced at a press conference in Chapel Hill at noon on Tuesday. He is replacing Larry Fedora, who went 45-43 in seven seasons at UNC.

From 1988-97, Brown patrolled the Tar Heels sidelines, compiling  69 wins, which ranks second in program history. He took the program to five bowl games, winning three of them.

In 1996 and 1997, Brown's UNC teams finished ranked in the top ten of the polls. He now needs just four victories to pass Dick Crum as the winningest coach in Tar Heels history.

Overall, Brown is 244-122-1 in 30 seasons as a head coach. He had his greatest success following his UNC tenure at the University of Texas where he won the 2005 National Championship.

Brown won two Big 12 titles with the Longhorns and was named Big 12 Coach of the Year each time. He previously had head coaching tenures at Appalachian State and Tulane.

For the past five years, Brown has been a college football analyst at ESPN. He is a member of this year's College Football Hall of Fame induction class.
