Dallas Mavericks forward Chandler Parsons took some time away from rehabbing a knee injury for a good cause on Friday. Parsons spoke to students at Bayles Elementary School as part of the NBA Cares BBVA Compass Future Builders initiative.
He spoke about the importance of hard work and an education to those assembled. Ex-NBA players Bruce Bowen, Eduardo Najera, and former WNBA players Kiesha Brown, Ashley Robinson, and Taj McWilliams-Franklin also joined Parsons and echoed his sentiments.
The first-year Mavs player told some assembled media that he is progressing well after arthroscopic knee surgery. Parsons was averaging 17.6 points per game and shooting over 40 percent from three before going down in March.
After being a second round pick of the Houston Rockets in 2011, he blossomed into a player that exceeded the expectations of many. His three-year run in Houston netted him a three-year, $46 million contract from Dallas this offseason.
Parsons originally made his mark at the University of Florida. He played for the Gators for four years and won the SEC Player of the Year award as a senior.
