Michael Sam continues to speak around the country telling his story about being the first openly gay player in the NFL. Tonight, Sam is speaking to students at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
Sam’s presentation will be held at the Cartwright Center-Gunning Addition on campus starting at 7:30. Tickets for UW-L students cost $2 and others can attend for just $5.
The Campus Activities Board planned tonight’s event. Sam has been a bigger presence in the media as of late, showing support for the Missouri football team and protestors against racism on his alma mater’s campus.
Sam came out as gay following his standout career with the Tigers and was drafted in the seventh round by the St. Louis Rams. He spent time with the Rams during training camp and also on the Dallas Cowboys practice squad.
Sam was a star at Missouri. As a senior, he was SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Year and a consensus All-American.
For his brave proclamation, Sam was awarded the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the 2014 ESPYs. His notoriety also led to being named one of GQ’s Men of the Year and participating in the 20th season of Dancing With The Stars.
