Canelo Alvarez is quickly becoming the face of a new era of boxing. Marketers have taken note and this week, Alvarez agreed to an endorsement deal with Tecate beer.
He will wear the Tecate logo on his trunks in his next two fights on Cinco de Mayo and Mexican Independance Day weekends. Alvarez will also be apart of the Mexican beer's "Born Bold" campaign.
In addition to their deal with Alvarez, Tecate also agreed to a multi-year sponsorship pact with his promoter, Golden Boy. They will be the exclusive beer and a presenting sponsor of the promtion with their marks featured prominently in the center ring, on the mat and in the various arenas where fights are held.
Alvarez currently stands 48-1 and is the WBC, RING Magazine, and Lineal Middleweight Champion. He is scheduled to defend his title next at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas against 31-3 Amir Khan on May 7th.
In November, Alvarez captured his belts in a 12-round, unanimous decision victory over Miguel Cotto. The one loss on his resume as a pro was a decision defeat at the hands of Floyd Mayweather.
Alvarez turned pro at 15 years old after winning the 2005 Junior Mexican National Boxing Champinoship. He knocked out 11 of his first 13 opponents on record.
