MLS Commissioner Don Garber Speaks at New Jersey Anti-Defamation League Gala

The New Jersey Anti-Defamation League brought in one of the world's biggest sports executives to keynote their annual Gala.  Major League Soccer commissioner Don Garber is based in the state and spoke at last night's event.

It was held in Jersey City at the Liberty House from 6-9 p.m.  ADL New Jersey actively recognizes top business leaders who make significant contributions to the community.

At the gala, they handed out several awards to these local influencers.  Garber was able to give a powerful presentation about building up the MLS and the work that the league does in the cities where franchises reside.

Garber has been commissioner since 1999.  Under his guidance, the league has jumped into the mainstream, growing from 10 to 23 teams.

The MLS has also been able to secure major broadcast partnerships with ESPN, Fox and Univision.  During Garber's tenure, 15 soccer-specific venues have been built across the league.

Before joining MLS, Garber spent 16 years working in a variety of capacities for the National Football League.  In 2015, he ranked 18th on Sports Business Daily's list of the 50 most influential people in U.S. sports business.
