This week, NASCAR great Ernie Irvan is going to be in Connecticut for a series of appearances. One of those is an autograph signing on Friday at the Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park.
The appearance is a part of a fanfest going on from 5-7 p.m. The NASCAR K&N Pro Series East is returning to the Speedway on Saturday.
Irvan's son, Jared, is competing in the race for the same race team his dad did. He also has the same car sponsor, Kodak, and is driving the #4 car like his dad did.
Irvan burst onto the seen in 1988 and finished as runner-up for Winston Cup Rookie of the Year in the closest race in that award's history. He won his first Winston Cup race at the 1990 Busch 500.
One year later, Irvan captured the Daytona 500 and had a fifth place finish in the Winston Cup standings. He continued to have success throughout the 1990s and collected 15 career victories.
Irvan's career was cut short by issues with concussions and he retired in 1999. He was named one of NASCAR's 50 Greatest Drivers in 1998 and was inducted into the Sonoma Raceway Hall of Fame.
