Fresh of what may be an MVP season, James Harden is being sought after more than ever as a corporate pitchman. Harden has most recently linked up with Taco Bell’s “Breakfast Defector” campaign.
The Houston Rockets’ star shooting guard aligns well with the quick service restaurant chain's latest initiative to transition people away from other more established breakfast options. Harden led the way through a 2014-15 NBA season that has seen the emergence of several new standout players and teams. He is also known for his own personal styles and tastes, something that certainly had to appeal to Taco Bell.
Harden even mentions his desire to stand out in the ad saying, “Sometimes I might wear a crazy outfit just to shake things up a little bit. People don’t think about Taco Bell for breakfast. Things are changing now.”
Since joining the Houston Rockets in 2012-14, James Harden has become one of the NBA’s premier scorers. Despite several injuries to the Rockets, Harden led the squad to the second seed in the Western Conference this season. He originally played the role of sixth man for the Oklahoma City Thunder upon his entrance to the NBA in 2009. With the third overall pick that year, the Thunder made Harden the first ever draft pick in franchise history.
Taco Bell started their “Breakfast Defector” movement last month. It includes a series of ads, contests, and a breakfastdefectors.com website. They originally rolled out a breakfast menu last March centered on the A.M. Crunchwrap that Harden is seen eating in the spot.
