The New Mexico Bowl is bringing in a football heavyweight to serve as speaker for their kickoff luncheon. Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly will address the bowl game participants on December 16th.
The luncheon takes place at the Isleta Resort and Casino in Albuquerque at 11:30 a.m. A day later, the game between New Mexico and UTSA will kickoff at noon.
Kelly will certainly share some fantastic stories from his playing career. He is also likely to discuss the challenges associated with overcoming cancer, a disease he has fought multiple times.
Kelly spent his entire 11-year career with the Buffalo Bills and led the franchise to four consecutive Super Bowls from 1991-1994. He helped usher in a new pass-happy era with the "K-Gun" offense and threw for 35,467 career yards.
Kelly was a five-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro. The Bills originally selected him in the first round of the 1983 NFL Draft, but he played two seasons for the USFL's Houston Gamblers before arriving in Buffalo.
The Bills have made Kelly's #12 one of two retired numbers in franchise history. He is a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the University of Miami Hall of Fame.
