Before Willis Reed was dominating on an NBA basketball court, he was growing up learning the game in northern Louisiana. Tomorrow, he will be at a dinner honoring sports legends from the region.
Reed is a special guest at the Sports Greats Dinner. It will be held at the Willie Davis Recreation Center in Farmerville starting at 5:45 p.m.
The event is being held by the Union Museum of History and Art as part of their "Sports Greats of North Louisiana" exhibit. Tickets to attend ar $20 for adults and $12 for kids under 18.
Reed spent his entire career with the New York Knicks. He was a seven-time All-Star who built a legacy of stepping up where it matters the most.
Reed won two NBA championships and two NBA Finals MVP trophies. He is known for entering Game 7 of the NBA Finals despite being unlikely to play after a significant thigh injury that had occured earlier in the series.
In 1982, Reed was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and he has his #19 jersey retired by the Knicks. After his playing career, he spent several years as an assistant coach and was General Manager and Vice President of Basketball Operations for the New Jersey Nets from 1989-1996.
