Nike Locks Up New Tennessee Titans Running Back Derrick Henry Before the Draft

Friday was a day that was a long-time in the making for former Alabama running back Derrick Henry.  The workhorse back heard his name called in the NFL Draft after being a second round pick of the Tennessee Titans.

While getting selected by an NFL team was a big step, Henry had already been feeling some of the trappings of being a professional during the week.  He was one of eight draft prospects signed to an endorsement deal by Nike.

Henry announced the deal via Twitter on the morning prior to the first round of the draft.  Some of the other notables signed by Nike include fellow standout running back Ezekiel Elliot and top overall pick Jared Goff.

After rumbling for 2,219 yards and 28 touchdowns, Henry won the 2015 Heisman Trophy.  He was also named SEC Offensive Player of the Year and a consensus All-American.

Henry almost literally carried the Crimson Tide to the National Championship in his final season.  With 158 yards in the title game, he became the new career leading rusher in school history.

During his first two seasons in Tuscaloosa, Henry shared the rushing load with T.J. Yeldon.  At Yulee High School, he rushed for 12,124 yards and became the all-time high school football record holder.
