The Pitt-Greenville Hot Stove Banquet brought back someone with deep roots this year. Oakland Athletics pitcher and Kinston, North Carolina native Chris Hatcher served as the featured speaker.
The 29th annual event took place on January 23rd at the Murphy Center located on the campus of East Carolina University. A social began at 6:30 p.m. followed by dinner at 7:00 p.m.
There were nearly 300 people in attendance and individual tickets were $15. In addition to Hatcher speaking, several awards were handed out.
Hatcher joined the Athletics at the end of last season and pitched in 23 games. He spent parts of the previous three seasons as a main part of the Dodgers bullpen.
Hatcher began his career primarily as a catcher in the Florida Marlins organization. He made his debut as a catcher in 2010 before transitioning to the mound the following year.
The Marlins originally selected him in the fifth round of the 2006 MLB Draft. He batted over .300 in each of three seasons at the University of North Carolina Wilmington.
