Olympic Champion David Verburg Speaks at Alma Mater’s Academic Awards Ceremony

It is always good to go back in time and visit where you came from. For Olympic champion David Verburg, that opportunity presented itself last Tuesday.

Verburg was at his alma mater E.C. Class High School in Lynchburg, Virginia. He served as the special speaker for the school's Academic Awards Ceremony.

Verburg credited E.C. Class for much of his Olympic success. The event was certainly inspiring for all who attended to hear about where he started and the goals he has achieved.

This past summer, Verburg took gold in Rio as a member of the U.S. 4x400 meter relay team. He has also won two golds in the event at the World Championships.

A year after graduating from E.C. Glass, Verburg was a member of the winning 4x400 team at the 2010 World Junior Championships. He was also a standout at George Mason University at the same time.

Verburg was a two-time Colonial Athletic Association Athlete of the Year and and 11-time All-American. He graduated GMU with a bachelor's degree in sports management.
