Olympic champion Gabby Douglas has inspired young girls and athletes across the country to achieve their best. She will deliver a similarly uplifting message as the keynote speaker at the ninth annual Savannah Morning News Best of Preps banquet. 

The event takes place May 14 at the Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort & Spa on Hutchinson Island. The top varsity athletes and teams in the area will be recognized for their accomplishments throughout the school year. 

Douglas is the first women speaker and breaks from their usual tradition of bringing in a sports star with ties to the state of Georgia. General admission tickets are currently available for $60. 

in 2012, Douglas was the first African American women to win the individual all-around gold medal in gymnastics. She also earned Olympic gold in the team competition in 2012 and 2014. 

Douglas was also a three-time medalist at the World Championships. She has parlayed her athletic fame to becoming a two-time New York Times bestselling author.
