Olympic gold medalist Nadia Comaneci is taking a trip to Canada in March. She is speaking at the Windsor Essex County Sports Persons of the Year Awards.
The 13th annual event takes place on March 20th at the Caboto Club. This is the first time that gymnastics will be part of the banquet.
Comaneci will share several stories from her competitive career. Last year, Chicago Blackhawks head coach Joel Quenneville addressed the crowd.
Comaneci etched her name into Olympic history by becoming the first gymnast to record a perfect 10 in 1976. She won a total of five medals at those Games, three of them gold.
In 1980, Comaneci returned to the Olympic stage and won four more medals. She also won four World Championship medals during her career.
Comaneci is a member of the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame and the International Women's Sports Hall of Fame. This past October, a portion of Olympic Park in Montreal was renamed Place Nadia Comaneci.
