Olympic Gold Medalist Dana Vollmer Announced as Commencement Speaker at Alma Mater

The University of Calironia, Berkeley is bringing back one of their more successful athletes in recent memory. Olympic gold medalist Dana Vollmer is the winter commencement speaker. 

The ceremony will take place December 18th at Hass Pavilion. The committee that choses speakers went through an extensive process to nominate Vollmer.

She will be able to deliver an inspirational message based on her accomplishments. It should be the kind of speech the fuels another generation of Cal graduates to reach for their goals. 

Vollmer is a three-time Olympic swimmer, having competed in the 2004, 2012 and 2016 Games. She has won five gold medals and seven medals overall. 

This past summer, Vollmer won a medal of each color and helped the 4x100-meter freestyle relay team set a new American record. She also became the first U.S. swimmer to win a medal after giving birth. 

In addition to her Olympic haul, Vollmer also has won 16 medals at the World Championships. In addition to giving motivational speeches, she is also an ambassador for the American Heart Association.
