Olympian Laurie Hernandez is someone who young people certainly look up to. Students at Sacred Heart School in East Grand Forks, Minnesota will certainly be excited to see her this afternoon.
Hernandez is speaking at an event at 2 p.m. in the Merth Gymnasium to help stir excitement about the new school year. There have been several athletes to speak at this "Day One" activity in the past.
Sacred Heart family, alumni and parishioners of the church are welcome to attend. Hernandez should provide some words of encouragement and motivate students to achieve success in the classroom.
Hernandez was the first Latin American athlete to earn a spot on the United States gymnastics team. She was part of the "Final Five" team that won gold at the 2016 Olympics.
Hernandez also captured an individual silver medal on the balance beam. She had made her senior debut earlier in the year and won four bronze medals at the U.S. National Championships.
After starring in the Olympics, Hernandez won season 23 of the ABC reality series, Dancing with the Stars. She is also a New York Times bestselling author of the new book, I Got This: To Gold and Beyond.
