Olympic Swimming Champion Anthony Ervin Speaks at Kent State Stark February 27th

On the tail end of the Winter Olympics, Kent State University at Stark is welcoming a champion from the Summer Games. Swimmer Anthony Ervin is speaking at their Featured Speaker Series.

The event takes place on February 27th at 7:30 p.m. at the Conference Center on campus. U.S. Army veteran Shannon Huffman Polson and actor Henry Winkler have proceeded Ervin as speakers.

Kent State Stark has been hosting a series for 27 years. The free event is open to the public but tickets are required.

Ervin first broke onto the scene in 2000, when he won a gold medal in the 50-meter freestyle and a silver in the 4x100 m freestyle. He retired from swimming in 2003 and even auctioned his gold medal off to aid tsunami relief efforts in Southeast Asia.

Ervin made a remarkable comeback to competitive swimming in 2012 and placed fifth in the 50 m free at the Olympics. He went on to win the event in 2016 and help the 4x100 m free team claim gold.

With his historic victory, Ervin became the oldest swimmer to win an individual gold medal at 35 years old. He also released his memoir, "Chasing Water: Elegy of an Olympian," in 2016.
