Orlando Magic Point Guard Elfrid Payton Helps Open Refurbished Elementary School Basketball Court

As the NBA season is about set to tip off, Orlando Magic point guard Elfrid Payton is out doing work in the community.  On Saturday, Payton joined Magic officials and Chase to unveil a refurbished basketball court at Three Points Elementary School.

The second-year player also conducted a Jr. Magic clinic on the court with community ambassadors Nick Anderson and Bo Outlaw.  This is the seventh sports facility in the area the Magic and Chase have teamed up to refurbish.

Payton will be looking to improve on a standout rookie season in 2015-16.  He was a member of the NBA’s All-Rookie first team after averaging 8.9 points, 6.5 assists, and 4.3 rebounds.

After winning the Lefty Driesell Award as college basketball’s top defender in his final season, Payton brought the same effort to that end of the court and averaged 1.7 steals for the Magic in 2014-15.  Prior to being drafted 10th overall, he was a college star at Louisiana-Lafayette.

Payton was a two-time first-team All-Sun Belt pick.  As a junior, he averaged over 19 points per game and led the Ragin’ Cajuns to the NCAA Tournament.
