NFL star quarterback Peyton Manning has been announced as the speaker for the 2015 Boy Scouts Palmetto Council Distinguished Citizen Dinner on March 25 at the Winthrop Coliseum. The event will start at 6:30pm and up to 550 people are expected to attend this year.
The Super Bowl champion has the most NFL touchdown passes in the league and has played in 14 Pro Bowl games since 1999. He is also a three-time AFC champion and a five-time AP NFL MVP. Before Manning went to play for the Broncos he set the all-time record for passing touchdowns, pass completions and pass attempts in the history of the Indianapolis Colts franchise.
The Louisiana native was named the Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year in 2013, and earned the title of the Super Bowl XLI MVP. Manning is one of the most recognizable players in the NFL and has the nickname “The Sheriff” for his notable pre-snap routine on the field. In addition to that he is seen in several commercials for a number of companies, but is mostly tied to Papa John’s Pizza as he purchased 21 of the franchises in Colorado.
Manning appears at several scout events each year, and one of this for this year will be at the Winthrop Coliseum next month for the 2015 Boy Scouts Palmetto Council Distinguished Citizen Dinner. This particular function will be extra special as it is designed to honor Senator Wes Hayes for giving over 40 years of service to the Boy Scouts of America. The funds raised at the dinner will be used to help the scouting operations in over six countries for the entire year.
