Former Philadelphia Flyers standout Reggie Leach lent his time for a good cause. He spoke at the Victoria Grizzlies gala celebrity fundraiser dinner last week.
The Grizzlies are a junior hockey team in British Columbia, Canada. The dinner was held at the Westin Bear Mountain Resort.
Leach talked about his battle with alcoholism and how that shortened his NHL career. He also discussed getting a new lease on life after getting help for those issues.
Leach is one of the greatest players in Flyers' franchise history and he scored 381 goals and added 285 assists in 934 NHL games. He was a key member of the Philadelphia team that won the Stanley Cup in 1975.
A year later, Leach led the league in goals with 61 while setting a new franchise single-season record. The Flyers went back to the Cup that season and although they lost, he still won the Conn Smyth Trophy as MVP of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Leach was a two-time NHL All-Star. In 1992, he was inducted into the Philadelphia Flyers Hall of Fame.
