Phillip Fulmer and Former Player Inky Johnson Speak to Chapel Hill Baptist Church

This past Saturday, former Tennessee football coach Phillip Fulmer was reunited with one of his former players.  Inky Johnson joined Fulmer at the Chapel Hill Baptist Church in Milan, Tennessee to speak about faith and Vols football.

Fulmer’s recruitment of Johnson helped uplift him out of a difficult upbringing.  The pair discussed that and also their own personal spiritual journeys.

Fulmer is second on the all-time wins list at Tennessee and went 152-52 over 17 seasons.  He led the Vols to the 1998 BCS National Championship and is the last coach to win back-to-back SEC Championships.

His tremendous accomplishments were honored with induction into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2012.  Fulmer now serves as a special assistant to the athletic director at East Tennessee State University.

Johnson played in 21 games at defensive back for the Vols before suffering an injury that left his right arm paralyzed in 2006.  He has turned that unfortunate circumstance around and is now a mentor to children and athletes.

His book published in 2011 is titled, Inky: An Amazing Story of Faith and Perseverance.  Johnson graduated from UT with a master’s degree in sports psychology and now gives speeches across the country.
