Hardin County is located in the western part of Tennessee. In that area of the country, the SEC is king, making former Vols head coach Phillip Fulmer a perfect fit as the keynote speaker at the county’s Sports Hall of Fame induction.
The 4th induction class will go in July 27th at Pickwick Landing State Park Inn and proceeds benefit the River City Kiwanis Club. There will be a meet and great starting at 5:00 p.m. with dinner to start at 6:30.
Fulmer will speak to those assembled following dinner. Tickets cost $35 in advance and can be purchased by calling either 731-925-7171 or 731-926-6733.
For 17 seasons, Fulmer was an institution at Tennessee, going 152-52. That put him just 21 victories behind the legendary Robert Neyland on the Volunteers all-time wins list.
Fulmer also delivered back-to-back SEC titles in 1997 and 1998, with UT capturing the first BCS National Championship in 1998. For all of his accomplishments, he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2012.
Nearly his entire coaching career was spent Tennessee, with Fulmer originally assuming a graduate assistant position following his playing days at the school. He now spends his days speaking around the country, serving as an ambassador of college football, and as a consultant to the athletic director at East Tennessee State.
