Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury is still basking in the glow of Stanley Cup victory, even as he may be headed out of town tonight. He is expected to be selected by the Vegas Golden Knights in the NHL Expansion Draft, but he made one final appearance as a Penguin yesterday.
He met with hundreds of fans and signed autographs at the Dick's Sporting Goods in Cranberry. There were 250 people lined up outside of Dick's early in the morning to receive wristbands for the event.
On Monday, Fleury also made an appearance to open a new playground he funded in McKees Rock. The opening was slightly delayed due to Pittsburgh's deep run in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Fleury has been a member of the Penguins since being the top overall pick in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. That year, he was named the top prospect and top defender in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
Fleury has gone on to win Stanley Cups with Pittsburgh in 2009, 2016 and 2017. He was named an NHL All-Star in 2011 and 2015.
Fleury won back-to-back World Junior Championship silver medals in 2003 and 2004. He was also part of the Canadian game that won a gold medal at the 2010 Olympics.
