Pittsburgh Steelers rookie James Conner is hoping to carry the legacy over that he started with his standout play at the University of Pittsburgh. Conner made his first public appearance in the city on Saturday since joining the pro ranks.
He held an autograph signing at Giant Eagle in Moon Township. The signing line first opened at 7 a.m. and many waited that long to speak with him and get a signature.
Conner even had a visit from a baby in the line. He is already a very popular Steelers player and his jersey ranked second in sales throughout the league last week according to Dick's Sporting Goods.
Pittsburgh selected Conner in the third round of this past spring's NFL Draft. He spent four seasons at Pitt and became one of the top running backs in program history.
As a freshman, Conner capped a strong season by rushing for over 200 yards and winning MVP honors at the Little Caesar's Bowl. He ran for 1,765 yards and an ACC-record 26 touchdowns the following year.
Conner was the ACC Player of the year and an AFCA First-Team All-American. He rushed for over 1,000 yards again in 2016 and was named to his second first-team All-ACC squad.
