Previously, Ward was the lineal, The Ring, WBA and WBC super middleweight champion.  He is still considered among the best pound for pound fighters in the world.

Ward had a successful introduction to most boxing fans in 2004, when he won an Olympic gold medal.  Following the Olympics, he capitalized on the postive momentum by turning pro.
