Pro Football Hall of Famer Randy Moss Named Gazette-Mail Sportsperson of the Year

Through his rise to the top of the football world, Hall of Fame wide receiver Randy Moss has stayed true to his roots. He has long been a source of pride for the people of Rand, West Virginia.

Due to his tremendous accomplishments, Moss has been named the Charleston Gazette-Mail Sportsperson of the Year. He is the third person to receive the honor, with the other two being notable coaches and West Virginians Nick Saban and Mike D'Antoni

Moss often gives back to the local community by giving out Thanksgiving turkeys, providing school backpacks to kids and speaking to people held at the juvenile detention center. The day after his Hall of Fame induction, he came back to the area to celebrate with hundreds at the Charleston Town Center.

Moss is one of the all-time leading receivers in NFL history with 982 catches for 15,292 yards and 156 touchdowns. He holds league records with 17 receiving touchdowns as a rookie and 23 touchdown grabs in a single season.

Moss was a six-time Pro Bowler and a four-time first-team All-Pro. He led the NFL in receiving touchdowns five times.

Moss was a member of the 2007 New England Patriots team that completed an undefeated regular season before losing in the Super Bowl. In addition to this year's Hall honor, he is included in the Minnesota Vikings Ring of Honor.
