This year, the Windsor Essex Sports Persons of the Year Awards will welcome Detroit Red Wings legend Nicklas Lidstrom as guest speaker. The 14th annual event takes place on April 15 at the Caboto Club.
Lidstrom is going to be in the area this spring, so he was a natural fit to present. He will certainly go over some of the better stories he has from his career and talk about the traits that made him a success on the ice.
"I think the message (I will bring) will be to be proud of what you're doing and take a lot of pride in it," Lidstrom told the Windsor Star. "It's going to take a lot of work to become a professional in sports. Take care of yourself as an athlete and you have to enjoy what you do."
The WESPY Awards has had a series of hockey-related speakers over the years, including Joel Quenneville, Ken Dryden and Chris Pronger. Tickets for the 2019 event will go on sale during the first week in January.
