One of the coolest stories of the NFL preseason involved San Francisco 49ers new running back Jarryd Hayne. Despite spending an entire career in the Australian National Rugby League, Hayne impressed on the football field and found a home on the 53-man roster.
His amazing accomplishment has caught the eye of endorsers well. While Hayne does not actually suit up in a regular season game until tonight on Monday Night Football, he already has his first endorsement deal with Under Armour.
It is unclear what Hayne’s role will be on a stacked roster for the athletic apparel brand. Under Armour has been surging in popularity thanks in part to pacts with golfer Jordan Spieth and reigning NBA MVP Stephen Curry.
Hayne certainly may grab the spotlight on the gridiron early. He was the leading rusher in three of San Francisco’s four preseason games.
In addition, Hayne has excelled in his opportunities to return punts. Against the San Diego Chargers in the final outing of the preseason, he picked up 118 all-purpose yards.
Hayne is a two-time Player of the Year in Australian rugby, but has had a known dream for several years of trying out his athletic abilities in the U.S. Now, there will be every opportunity for him to succeed stateside or eventually return to the sport that drove him to become a household name.
