The Clinton LumberKings are getting a visit from one of the most important people in the Seattle Mariners organization. Mariners general manager Jerry Dipoto is coming down from the parent club to speak at the LumberKings Hot Stove Dinner.
The event will be held at 6 p.m. on January 14th at Eagle Point Lodge. Individual tickets are $30 each in advance and $35 at the door.
Proceeds from the banquet benefit the Friends of Riverview Stadium, an organization that has helped make renovations at Ashford University Field. In addition to hearing from Dipoto, attendees get the opportunity to participate in a silent auction and raffle.
Dipoto has been the general manager in Seattle since 2015 and made a league-leading 35 roster moves in that time span. He has also spent time as a general manager for the Arizona Diamondbacks and Los Angeles Angels.
While with the Angels, Dipoto made arguably the biggest move of his career, signing star slugger Albert Pujols to a lucrative free agent contract. Prior to being named the interim general manager in Arizona, he was the organization's director of scouting and player personnel.
Dipoto began his front office career in the scouting department with the Colorado Rockies. He was previously an eight-year major league veteran pitcher.
