Some of the early lessons Seattle Seahawks quarterback Austin Davis learned about overcoming adversity occurred on the baseball field. He was able to share some of those and what has happened in his career since as the speaker at the Lamar Baseball Banquet.
The preseason event took place last month. Davis has a friendship with Lamar head coach Luke Walker since they both played together at West Lauderdale.
In addition to sharing some of his background, Davis talked about what it is like to be around big names like Pete Carroll and Russell Wilson with the Seahawks. Walker was also able to share with attendees the outlook for the team in 2018.
Davis has come a long way since being a walk-on at Southern Miss in 2007. He ended up winning the starting job for the Golden Eagles as a freshman and set 14 school records in his college career.
Davis was also a two-time Conference USA second-team selection. He had to defy the odds again after he went undrafted in 2012, but quickly signed on with the St. Louis Rams.
Davis even started eight games for the Rams in 2014, throwing for 2,001 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also played for the Cleveland Browns and Denver Broncos before joining Seattle this offseason.
