Six years after originally becoming eligible, the Hockey Hall of Fame has elected one of the NHL's most standout players from the 1990's. Seven-time All-Star Eric Lindros got the call on Monday that he was a member of the Hall's 2016 class.
Lindros is certainly the headline name on a four-person class that will be enshrined in Toronto on November 14th. The other three were Russian scorer Sergei Makarov, two-time Stanley Cup champion goalie Rogie Vachon and longtime head coach Pat Quinn.
While injuries robbed Lindros of a longer career, there is no questioning the impact he made on the ice. He was originally the number one overall pick in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft and dubbed "The Next One" as an homage to legend Wayne Gretzky.
Lindros lived up to the billing and became an icon of the sport in his first eight seasons with the Philadelphia Flyers. He won the Hart Memorial Trophy as league MVP in 1995 and took the franchise to the Stanley Cup Final in 1997.
In between those banner accomplishments, Lindros notched a career-high 115 points during the 1995-96 season. He was traded to the New York Rangers in 2001 and spent three seasons with the club before finishing out his time in the NHL with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Dallas Stars.
Overall, Lindros scored 865 points in 760 games. He also skated in three Olympics for Canada, winning a silver and gold medal.
