Six-Time Gold Medalist Amy Van Dyken-Rouen Speaks at Florence Crittenton Luncheon

Inspirational six-time gold medalist Amy Van Dyken-Rouen shared her story with over 700 people on Sunday in Arizona.  Dyken-Rouen was the keynote speaker for the 13th annual Florence Crittenton Teaming Up For Girls Luncheon.

The luncheon was held at the Arizona Biltmore Resort and it raised over $420,000.  Florence Crittenton has been helping at-risk girls for 118 years.

Van Dyken-Rouen has been defying the odds her whole life.  She began swimming to strengthen her lungs due to severe childhood asthma.

That led her down a path of Olympic success.  In 1996, Van Dyken-Rouen won four gold medals, the most by any American female in a single games.

Following her triumphs in Atlanta, she suffered several injuries, but still came back to win two golds in 2000.  Van Dyken-Rouen is a member of the International Swimming Hall of Fame, U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame and Colorado Sports Hall of Fame.

After her swimming career, she became involved in sports media and has continued to support various charities.  A 2014 ATV accident left Van Dyken-Rouen paralyzed from the waste down, but she had used that difficulty to help others living with spinal cord injuries.
