Tomorrow, Play Like a Girl is hosting an Empowerment Forum on Confidence, Leadership and Playing like a Girl. One of the most successful female athletes in recent memory, Monica Abbott, is making an appearance at the event.
Abbott will take part in an armchair conversation at the forum that is being held at Tennessee Park in Nashville. The event marks National Girls and Women in Sports Day.
The United State of Women Director, Taylor Barnes, will speak with Abbott. The event is free and over 150 people are expected to attend.
Abbott currently plays for National Pro Fastpitch's Scrap Yard Dawgs. She is the first player to sign a contract for over one million dollars in league history.
In 2008, Abbott dominated in Olympic competition and helped Team USA win a silver medal. She is perhaps best known for being one of the great college players of all-time at the University of Tennessee.
Abbott still holds NCAA records for career wins, strikeouts and shutouts. She was a four-time first-team All-American and three-time Southeastern Conference Pitcher or Co-Pitcher of the Year.
