Decades after he picked up a basketball competitively, Bill Walton is still influencing others as a popular broadcaster and speaker. This past weekend, he served as the keynote speaker at the West Coast Produce Expo.
Walton participated in a question and answer session about his life and career in basketball. As usual, he did most of the talking, filling the hour speaking engagement with fascinating and hilarious stories.
Walton also did a meet and greet with attendees at the Expo. Everyone who came in contact with the former NBA great was impacted by his energy and enthusiasm.
Before he went on to NBA fame, Walton became one of the great college basketball players of all-time. He won three straight National College Player of the Year awards and two NCAA titles at UCLA.
Early in his pro career, Walton won the NBA MVP and a championship with the Portland Trail Blazers. While injuries hampered him later in his career, he remained a key contributor and won another title with the Boston Celtics.
Walton was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 1993. He continues to work for ESPN today as a basketball analyst and is the author of the recent bestselling book, "Back from the Dead."
