Sports hero Rudy Ruettiger was in the Portland, Oregon area last week for a speaking engagement. He gave a keynote presentation at a Jeans and Jerseys Youth Sports fundraiser. 

Positive Coaching Alliance Portland gave out six college scholarships to local high school athletes. They are called Triple-Impact Competitor Scholarships. 

Ruettiger centered his talk around the value of determination. He also signed autographs and took photos following his speech. 

Ruettiger entered sports lore when his story was told in the 1993 film "Rudy." It chronicles his upbringing and journey to becoming a Notre Dame walk-on. 

Despite being dyslexic and struggling in school, Ruettiger got admitted to Notre Dame on his fourth try. While he was undersized, his determination made him stick as a member of the Irish scout team once he got to campus. 

Ruettiger got to play three plays in his final game and was carried off the field by his teammates. He has written three books and now travels the country talking about his life.
