On Wednesday, American soccer legend Mia Hamm and top NASCAR driver Jimmie Johnson made an appearance at Charlotte Motor Speedway for a good cause. They kicked off Breast Cancer Awareness Month by helping paint the pit wall pink.
Hamm and Johnson were there on behalf of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina. They have both been longtime brand ambassadors for the Blue Cross and Blue Shield.
They got to meet with around 400 breast cancer survivors who helped them paint the wall. It will be on display when NASCAR's Xfinity Series comes to Charlotte for the Drive for the Cure 300 on October 7th.
Hamm may be the greatest female soccer player of all-time. She ranks third all-time in international goals scored with 158 and the U.S. team leader in assists.
In 2001 and 2002, Hamm won the first two women's FIFA Player of the Year awards. With the national team, she captured two Olympic gold medals and FIFA World Cups.
At the University of North Carolina, Hamm won four NCAA Championships and was a three-time All-American. She is a member of the National Soccer Hall of Fame, Alabama Sports Hall of Fame, the Texas Sports Hall of Fame and the World Football Hall of Fame.
