On November 3rd, sports writer Jackie MacMullan got to provide some words of wisdom at her alma mater, Emerson College. She was there as part of the Al Jaffe Speaker Series.
MacMullan's appearance was the second engagement of the school year. The events are put on by the school's sports communication program.
There were 50 students gathered to hear MacMullan give them tips of what it takes to succeed in sports media. She also addressed important industry topics like the future of the newspaper business.
MacMullan built a strong journalistic reputation after joining the Boston Globe in 1982. She was the paper's first female columnist and wrote for them until 2008.
From 1995-2000, MacMullan was a senior writer covering the NBA for Sports Illustrated. Since, she has been more affiliated on a national scale with ESPN.
MacMullan contributes to ESPN.com coverage of the NBA and is a regular panelist on ESPN's "Around the Horn." She has written several books and worked on projects with legendary sports figures like Larry Bird, Geno Auriemma and Shaquille O'Neal.
