This week, sports broadcaster Greg Gumbel returned to his college town for an important speech. Gumbel spoke at the 24th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebration Dubuque, Iowa.
Gumbel's presentation was titled, "Leaders and Their Dreams". Over 400 people turned out at the Grand River Center to hear him talk about how more work was needed to attain Dr. King's goals.
The current president at Gumbel's alma mater, Loras College, introduced him. Faces and Voices hosted the event with support from the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque.
Gumbel is a three-time Emmy winning broadcaster and is one of the lead faces of CBS Sports. He does play-by-play for the NFL on CBS and is a host of the network's college basketball coverage.
Gumbel also hosts Inside the NFL for Showtime and NFL Network. He was the first African-American to call a major U.S. sports championship when he broadcasted Super Bowl XXXV.
In between his two stints at CBS Sports, Gumbel also worked at NBC. He was an early ESPN employee as a SportsCenter anchor and NBA broadcaster.
