Despite starring for ESPN thousands of miles away, Stan Verrett's ties to New Orleans still run deep. The native will return home in May as the keynote speaker at his alma mater's graduation.
Verrett will address the St. Augustine High School Class of 2016 on May 18th. The ceremony will be held at Xavier University's Convocation Center.
“We are excited to welcome Stan back home to reflect on his outstanding media career reporting on the world of sports,” said Oyd Craddock, St. Augustine High School President and CEO. “Stan’s career and stirring insights serve as unique inspiration to our students as they pursue their own opportunities and passions.”
Verrett began at ESPN as an ESPNews anchor in 2000. Since 2009, he has been Los Angeles-based as the co-anchor of the 1 a.m. SportsCenter.
Before coming to ESPN, Verrett was back in New Orleans as a weekend sports anchor at WDSU-TV. He also spent time on the ABC and NBC affiliates in Norfolk, Virginia.
In addition to his TV work, Verrett has background as a top-rated morning show host at stations in Norfolk, Washington D.C., and Charleston, South Carolina. He originally graduated with a bachelor's degree in journalism from Howard University in 1989.
