Star Quarterback Cam Newton Brings His Annual Camp to Alabama

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton made his name in the state of Alabama.  That is why it is important to him to get back every year for his youth football camp.

Newton held court at Parker High School in Birmingham on Friday and Saturday.  Local high schools came to participate in a 7 on 7 tournament hosted by the Cam Newton Foundation.

The tournament finals will be held in Charlotte and the winner from Birmingham gets an all-expenses paid trip to that event.  Newton’s foundation works to impact the lives of youth in the Charlotte and Atlanta areas.

Through his first four years in the NFL, he has put up some of the most impressive numbers of any quarterback. He was rewarded just last week by signing a five-year, $103.8 million contract extension with the Panthers.

Just last season, Newton guided Carolina to the playoffs for the second time.  He has also been to two Pro Bowls.

After being the first overall pick of the 2011 NFL Draft, Newton was a success right off the bat.  He set a rookie record with 422 yards passing in his first game and became the first quarterback to throw for over 4,000 yards in his first year.

Newton shot onto the national radar during his one season at Auburn.  He won the Heisman Trophy and the BCS National Championship.
