Jim Morris' amazing baseball story started while he was a high school teacher. It makes sense then that he would be a keynote speaker this year at The North American School Bus EXPO Conference & Trade Show.
The event will be held July 23-27 at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nevada. STN EXPO is the leading event for bringing together school transportation professionals.
Morris' address will be on July 25th and he will share tips for how people can identify mentors and become leaders themselves. Now through June 24th, attendees can register for the early bird rate of $399.
If it was not a true story, many would not believe the tale of Morris' journey to the major leagues. He was originally drafted fourth overall in 1983, but several arm injuries derailed his career before he ever advanced beyond the single-A level.
In 1999, his high school baseball team made a bet with their coach that he would try out for a MLB team if they won the district championship. Morris went to a Tampa Bay Rays tryout and threw well enough to sign a contract.
Later that year, the 35-year-old Morris made his big league debut. Since, he has released an autobiography, "The Oldest Rookie", and Disney made a feature film "The Rookie" about his journey.
