Super Bowl Champion Chris Long To Speak at Alma Mater's Valedictory Exercises

Besides being an outstanding player and recent Super Bowl champion, Chris Long has an interesting story to tell. He has become one of the NFL's best-known philanthropists and donated all of his game checks from this past season to various organizations.

Long will share what inspires him on and off the field as the featured speaker at the University of Virginia's Valedictory Exercises. The event takes place at 3 p.m. on the Lawn on May 18.

This particular speaking engagement will be specifically meaningful for Long, who grew up in Charlottesville and has his #91 jersey retired by the Cavaliers. He was a two-time captain, a consensus All-American and the ACC Defensive Player of the Year during his time at UVA.

Long went on to be selected second overall in the 2008 NFL Draft by the St. Louis Rams. He spent the first eight seasons of his career with the Rams and racked up double-digit sack campaigns in 2011 and 2012.

Long went on to help the New England Patriots win Super Bowl LI in his one season with the team. He joined the Philadelphia Eagles this past offseason and pulled off the rare accomplishment of winning back-to-back championships with different teams when the Eagles won Super Bowl LII.

Long's game checks from 2017 went towards promoting educational equality in the cities he has played. Prior to this initiative, he was already well-known for founding Waterboys, an organization that helps bring clean water to villages in East Africa.
