Despite not being the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for over a decade, Tony Dungy remains an active part of the community. On Wednesday morning, he was talking to students at Gibbs High School.
The appearance was the featured event for Dads Take Your Child to School Day. It was held in Gibbs' auditorium and sponsored the Florida Council on the Social Status of Black Men and Boys.
There were hundreds of students from at least a dozen Pinellas County schools that attended Dungy's presentation. He talked about how important it was for the attendees to think about their future and also took audience questions.
Dungy is one of the greatest coaches of the NFL's modern era. He spent 13 seasons as a head coach, took his teams to the playoffs 11 times and finished with a career record of 139-69.
In 2007, Dungy became the first African-American head coach to win a Super Bowl when his Indianapolis Colts beat the Chicago Bears. He also had a three-year NFL playing career and spent several seasons as an assistant coach on the defensive side of the ball.
This year, Dungy was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He remains an ambassador for the game and is an analyst on NBC's "Football Night in America".
