Tennis legend Billie Jean King has been tapped as the keynote speaker at the 2016 Susan B. Anthony Luncheon. The event takes place February 10th at the Joseph A. Floreano Rochester Riverside Convention Center in upstate New York.
Each year, the lunch honors women who continue Anthony’s trailblazing legacy. It also helps raise money and awareness for the museum.
There are not many more qualified to headline the annual luncheon than King. Following her historic career, she has become a go-to speaker on a variety of issues.
King is the founder of the Billy Jean King Leadership Institute and the Women’s Sports Foundation. She is also a member of the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports, and Nutrition and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2009.
Despite all her post-tennis accomplishments, it was on the courts where King gained her notoriety. She won 39 Grand Slam titles in a career that spanned over two decades.
Her 1973 “Battle of the Sexes” with Bobby Riggs became the stuff of legends. In 1987, King was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame.
