Tennis Icon Rod Laver Holds New Jersey Book Signing

One of the icons of tennis has finally put down some of the fantastic stories from his career on paper.  Rod Laver has an autobiography out and yesterday he hosted a book signing in New Jersey.

Laver was in Ridgewood at Bookends for the 7 p.m. signing.  It was a free event as long as people purchased a book from the store to have signed.

Earlier in the summer, Laver drew a crowd of hundreds for an appearance in La Jolla, California.  There was also great interest in his New Jersey event.

Laver scored a record 200 singles wins during his career.  He was an 11-time Grand Slam champion and likely would have recorded more wins at his sport's signature events had he played his entire career in the Open Era.

From 1964-1979, Laver reigned as the top men's singles player in the world.  Each of those years, he won at least ten tournaments.

Laver is revered in his native Australia and Centre Court at Melbourne's National Tennis Center is named Rod Laver Arena.  He is a member of both the International Tennis Hall of Fame and the Sport Australia Hall of Fame.
