While many players made appearances at the annual Texas Rangers Fan Fest on Saturday, none more may have been more anticipated then the showing of arguably the greatest player in franchise history. Team Hall of Famer Ivan Rodriguez participated in an autograph signing at 1 p.m.
Rodriguez signed for approximately 225 fans who lined up on a first-come, first-served basis. Current stars who also did signings included Adrian Beltre, Cole Hamels, and Prince Fielder.
Fielder and Hamels were also two of the players who held question and answer sessions. There were clinics on hitting, pitching, baserunning, and conditioning that fans could attend as well.
Rodriguez will appear on the Baseball Hall of Fame ballot for the first time next year and should eventually gain induction. He is considered the best defensive catcher in the history of the sport.
Rodriguez caught a record 2,427 games and won ten Gold Glove Awards. He also was dangerous at the plate, picking up seven Silver Slugger Awards and winning American League MVP in 1999.
While playing the majority of his career with the Rangers, Rodriguez also had notable moments for several other franchises. He won his lone World Series championship with the Florida Marlins in 2003 and was MVP of the National Championship Series during that postseason run.
