Texas Rangers pitcher Derek Holland has become an important member of the Greater Dallas community. On Monday, his 60 Feet 6 Foundation hosts its inaugural Celebrity Golf Tournament at Las Colinas Country Club in Irving.
There will also be an official after party at DEC on Dragon in Dallas. Luminaries from the baseball world like Clayton Kershaw and Yovani Gallardo are also slated to participate.
Holland’s charity, which was founded in 2014, works to combat childhood leukemia. He has been one of the Rangers’ top pitchers since his big league arrival in 2009.
Over seven seasons, Holland has 55 victories and boasts a 4.28 ERA. The 28 year old has also been a reliable arm during three Texas playoff appearances.
Holland had his best personal campaign in 2011. That season he went 16-5 with a 3.95 ERA as the Rangers advanced to the World Series.
The franchise originally selected Holland in the 25th round of the 2006 MLB Draft. He worked his way up through the minors and at one point was considered the organization’s second best prospect according to Baseball America.
