Jim Morris has an inspirational story that made waves in the baseball world. On November 17th, he will share his journey as the keynote speaker at the Kansas Agribusiness Convention.
The event takes place at 8:30 a.m. at the Hyatt Regency Hotel Eagle Ballrooms in Wichita, Kansas. This convention is apart of the overall expo that runs November 16-17 at the Century II Convention Center.
The expo is in its 31st year and stands as the largest agribusiness tradeshow in the Midwest. There are 1,200 people expected to attend.
Morris was living a comfortable life as a high school teacher and coach when things changed forever. He made a promise to his high school baseball team that he would try out for a major league team if they won the district championship.
Morris went on to attend a Tampa Bay Devil Rays tryout and throw 12 straight fastballs clocked at 98-mph. At the age of 35, he signed a professional contract and moved quickly through the minor leagues to make his debut when rosters expanded in September 1999.
In two big league seasons, Morris pitched in 21 games. He published an autobiography titled, "The Oldest Rookie," and Disney made a film about his story released in 2002.
