UNC Asheville's baseball program is welcoming one of baseball's top closers tonight. Three-time All-Star Greg Holland is the featured speaker at the program's fundraiser.
The event takes place from 6-9 p.m. at Highland Brewery. Tickets are $55 and they include food, drinks, an auction and meet and greet with the 2018 Bulldogs team.
Holland has gotten to know the UNCA program well by training with the team this offseason. He has roots in the area as a McDowell County native and former baseball player at Western Carolina University.
Holland made his major league debut in 2010 with the Kansas City Royals. In 2013, he was named to his first All-Star team and set a Royals franchise record with 47 saves.
In 2014, Holland collected 46 saves, posted a 1.44 ERA and won the Mariano Rivera Award. He also tied a postseason record with seven saves, helping to lead the Royals to the World Series.
After recovering from Tommy John surgery, Holland signed with the Colorado Rockies last year. He was selected to his third All-Star team and went on to post a team record 41 saves.
